ADATA UV131 32GB Flash Drive Review

Image
The ADATA UV131 USB Flash drive is a simple and great looking flash drive so far at it's price point. The whole drive body covered with zinc alloy material finishing in matte sleek dark grey color. Due to it's zinc alloy body it feels really sturdy and it should not rust over time, the cap-less design allows you to not worry about missing the cap over time and it have a hook for you to attach it with your keychain. Appearance aside, from the packaging it promotes that it is USB3.1 capable. In layman terms, it should USB3.1 should theoretically supports up to the 5Gbps. But we all know, at this price point, there is no way that this flash drive could go up to that speed. So here's the test result using Crystal Disk Mark: As expected, this flash drive performs averagely among other entry level flash drives in the market. People who usually buy this normally would not care much on the performance but they do care on the sturdiness, sleek design and the po...

Windows 10 USB3.0 Disconnect Fix

Image
The USB port is probably one of the best invention in the history of computing. It is simple to use, however due to some operating system configuration, it sometimes can be tricky. It happens when I upgrade my laptop, the laptop comes with multiple USB 3.0 ports. As usual, I plugged in my old trusty USB 2.0 hard disk and start transferring all my files into the new laptop. Because it have quite a bunch of files to transfer, naturally I let it sit over night to do it's job. When I wake up the next morning, I heard my laptop is making some sounds, apparently it is disconnecting and reconnecting my trusty external hard disk repeatedly. Fearing it may kill my hard disk, I immediately unplug it and try to look for a solution to this answer. I had tried many configuration and even formatting the PC, thinking that the laptop manufacturer may had included some USB power settings that may leads to this issue. However, it still doesn't fix it. Finally I came across the solution aft...

What if you could enjoy the performance of a NVMe SSD with the half the cost of Samsung 970 Evo? Like most premium SSD, the Adata SX8200 Pro comes in a paper box. Diving into the box, we will find the NVMe SSD ...

Philips SHP895 Repair - The Revival

Image
After the initial inspection of the Philips SHP895 ( details can be viewed here ) and verified the driver is out of luck with repairing it, I decided to revive it with a different approach. From the Philips official site  we can easily get the specs for the headphones driver. Then I went on a hunt for a 50mm with a similar 32ohm rated headphones driver and decided to go with one that the seller claims it's Graphene coated. After a few weeks later, the driver arrived. The driver membrane is grey in color and it does feels thicker and much more solid compared to other lower end headphones drivers that I had worked on previously. With some tests using a multi meter, although the PVC coating for the cabling inside the headphones are falling off, the connections is still very solid. So no internal recabling is required. However the contact of the 3.5mm female connector soldering lead are heavily covered with oxidation and dirt. I will need to remove all existing bad solderi...

Vostro 5471 Update: LCD Backlight Bleeding Issue

Image
It is been months since the last review of the Dell Vostro 5471. Recently we found out that the Vostro LCD is showing some issue with the LED back light. Below images may be slightly blurry due to captured with an iPhone with low light condition. From the images we can easily see the issue is showing on the bottom of the screen. This issue usually caused by sub par LCD panel used by manufacturer and/or due to bad design of the LCD bezels. For our case, we had contacted Dell to address the issue but even with several panel and a bezel change, the issue persists. This issue only obvious when a black screen is displaying, it could be a bit distracting while watching a movie as usually there will be black space on the top and bottom of the display.

The Fiio uBTR or μBTR or micro BTR is currently the most affordable Fiio Bluetooth audio receiver. But why Bluetooth audio receiver? There are multiple reasons to have a Bluetooth receiver and reasons to not have a Bluetooth receiver. But with the current trend of not having a 3.5mm headphones jack on the flagship phones, getting a Bluetooth receiver might be a great alternative from using a USB-C/Apple Lightning jack to 3.5mm headphones jack. The largest benefit of having a Bluetooth receiver instead of an adapter is you do not need to add extra wear to your phone's USB-C/Lightning port and it is easily replaceable or upgrade.
