Final E1000 - Underated Budget Earphones?

S'Next Final previously known as Final Audio Design makes quite a few of high end audio devices in the past and entry level market is hardly being their focus. However few years ago, they begin to release a few earphones in the entry level market price range. They have the Adagio II and Heaven II in the past, but these 2 entry level IEMs have a very distinct audio signature that not many could accept.

Moving forward to 2018 they released the E series, starting with the E3000, E2000 and later on, the E1000. This caught many audiophile eyes as it is priced at a really competitive price of RM128.

The E1000 package comes with total of 5 pairs of silicone eartips. This is quite surprising as most of the earphones usually only comes with 3 pairs of eartips. Besides, these silicone eartips are well done and they fits perfectly and comfortably in the ears even for long periods. Plus, they are colored with red/pink and grey at the stem for easy identification of right and left eartips. There are no pouch provided but at this price point it is quite forgiving considering Final is a japanese brand that usually offer much higher price point products.

The E1000 housing is made from ABS plastic, the feel of it is quite similar to the Lego bricks. Don't get me wrong, they are quite solid to touch but they are quite attracted to mild scratches even with extra care. The housing length is much more shorter compared to the Heaven II housing and much more lighter as well, this resulted the earphones to be able to stay in my ears for long period of time without the feeling of the earphones might fall off from my ears.

The cables of this earphones are quite thick and feels really solid. It as a dual cable configuration, this means that most likely the left and right earpiece will have it's own signal and ground wires. Which also means that there is a possibility that enthusiast could modify the cable to accept balanced signal output for better signal separation.

My unit of E1000 had been burnt in for 200+ hours before reviewing it's audio signature. On the first test, I used an iPhone 8 with the lightning - 3.5mm converter and Spotify as music source.

Overall it have quite a balanced-warm signature with a slight bias to lows. In most of my test tracks, the lows are presented quite loosely and somewhat felt like is veiled, but the lows doesn't colors the mid range. I can see why Final tuned this earphones to such signature as it could performs quite well on most pop musics. When it comes to Trance music like "Tiesto's Elements Of Life" the low thumps in the tracks really deep gives a lively effect to the music.

Moving on to the mids, the E1000 still didn't lose the Final signature sweet mids. However on certain female vocals like the "Karen Mok's Love (爱)" and "Fish Leong's 无条件为你" there are some mild but very forgiving sibilant.

On the highs, this is where the E1000 limitations shows itself. The highs are present but on many tracks where there are cymbals the highs just won't have the lingering effect, it just felt like the cymbals highs are being cut-off.

Even though the E1000 has a warm signature doesn't means that it can't present the musical details. The E1000 is able to present most of the micro details on complicated tracks. Despite the close back design, the soundstage is surprisingly quite wide and it felt like an well ventilated earphones design. On closer inspect on the earphones, I found out there is an air vent under the earphones near the nozzle and another vent at the bottom back of the housing. This air vent is probably a mechanism to allow the dynamic driver moves freely as there are less air pressure resistance.

The E1000 could performs even better if one is willing to spend abit more for a better DAC/DAP or even an amplifier. I have tested it with an overpowered DAC Amplifier combo (Matrix Mini-i), the bass immediately tightens up and the highs are able to lingers much better than direct out from an iPhone.

Overall the Final E1000 earphones in my opinion is one of the well engineered and well tuned earphones in this budget. I would definitely recommend this earphones to those just about to start their audio journey and would not want to break their bank for high end setup.
